Local willow sculptor Anna Turnbull and the Northumbria Basketry Group will be running willow weaving workshops once a month for the first half of 2017. A series of up to 12 larger-than-life willow sculptures will be produced to adorn points along the Lindisfarne Nature Trail – find out more about this creative arts project here.
The first willow workshop will take place at 1pm – 5pm on Saturday 21st at the Holy Island Village Hall. Anna is looking for a small group of volunteers to help weave these unique sculptures. No problem if you’ve not done this before – tuition, guidance and all materials will be provided. In tandem with the creation of the sculptures, the Northumbria Basketry Group will be running an introduction to simple basketry techniques – so you can have a go at both! If you can’t make the first, the second workshop will take place on Saturday 25th of February at Hunting Hall Farm (times TBC).

A mini-workshop with Helen Grierson
On these mini workshops you can turn up on any of the dates below for an hour’s session between 10 and 11 or 11.30 and 12.30 or 1 and 2 pm or 2.30 and 3.30 to “play ” with a variety of glass materials including glass granules, rods, and inclusions such as copper foil.
Each workshop will have a theme:
Choose what you want to make and come along on that day.
Because these sessions have been so popular Helen is asking people to book a specific time if you definitely know you are coming.
There may still be spaces for people who would rather just “drop in” but especially for those coming from some distance I would advise you book a space.
We’re now looking forward to early February when our ancestors (including the Celtic peoples) in these islands & other parts of the world celebrated the festival of Imbolc.
The first signs of Spring.
