There have been a number of significant legal developments concerning violence against women and girls recently. This half day course aims to demystify some topical legal issues including:
- legal aid following the recent Court of Appeal decision on the domestic violence gateway
- changes to the law on female genital mutilation introduced in 2015, including mandatory reporting
- the new criminal offence of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship
The course also includes helpful information professionals can provide to women who have reported or are thinking about reporting domestic violence to the police.
Who should attend? It is open to all professionals working in London boroughs on violence against women and girls issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals. It is also open to Commissioners and Local Authority Officers responsible for commissioning violence against women services.
