Black Women in Politics

Black Women in Politics is a cross party initiative founded by Rachel Toussaint, a Birmingham-based Solicitor.

Our main objective is to encourage African & Caribbean to engage in UK politics and to provide political support to women-led initiatives in business, community campaigns and the voluntary / third sector.

We have politicians and political activists from the main political parties in our core group who have come together to use the political process to tackle the issues faced by the community on a daily basis. Our five key objectives are:
1) To increase voter registration
2) Improve political education
3) Increase Black representation
4) Create a lobbying group
5) Focus on young people entering politics

The ethos of the group will centre around:
Having a large member base
Having a steering committee
Being self-funding

Black Women in Politics understands that in order to address the wider issues that affect the community we must have a voice at the decision-making table on a local and national level.
