22 November 2014 17:00 ~ Feminicide in Sinjar – sexual violence, conflict, and gender liberation in the Kurdish struggle – Roj Women and others – London

Peace in Kurdistan Campaign and Roj Women’s Association would like to invite you to this event at Khalili Lecture Theatre, SOAS University, London WC1H 0XG

Three months after ISIS fighters attacked the Iraqi region on Sinjar, the fate of thousands of women kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery following the raids is still unknown and no international investigation into their welfare has taken place. However, just as it has done in the defence of Kobane in Syria, the Kurdish Women’s Movement has mobilised with allied organisations to take action for the missing women.

This event will bring together women activists and representatives of the Kurdish women’s organisations to give you first-hand information about how people have responded to the crisis on the ground. We’ll also discuss the unique potential within the Kurdish Women’s Movement for engendering gender liberation in the region and its role in the development of the Rojava revolution.

Women Mentoring Women update

Walk in her shoes campaign and Get up talks

We recently started sending out Newsletters in August (hope you have had a chance to read them) and we would love your feedback. If you have any good news stories  you would like featured in our Newsletter (business, career, achievements), do let us know.

We are running our ‘Walk in her shoes‘ campaign to support women who have experienced baby or infant loss. We will be providing these mums with a gift box.  Each box costs £15. The Nottingham Women’s Conference 2014 has five themes:

    Patriarchy, Male Violence Against Women and Girls, Women’s Health, Women Fight Back and Feminist Mothering.

About the Conference:

    A range of talks plus Q&A, and interactive workshops. We want this year’s conference to be as inclusive as possible so expect to hear discussions about issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, health and more.

Nottingham Women’s Conference is an initiative of members of the NFAN action group with the support of the Women’s Centre in Nottingham. We held our first conference on 21 September last year and it was a huge success. The conference was extremely popular and quickly sold out its 150 places. In addition, there were over 40 associated fringe events attracting an even greater audience. Our month long Nottingham women’s festival will open with our Reclaim the Night march, feature the Nottingham Women’s conference on November 22nd with a conference follow up day of workshops led by local campaign groups on November 23rd. The festival will close with a coach organised by NFAN for Nottingham women to attend and support the Murder March in London on November 29th to remember our sisters lost through Male Violence.
