7 June 2016 19:30 ~ Generation F: the feminist fight from first to fourth wave – Fawcett – London

Until 9pm @ Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, Westminster

7th June 2016 marks the 150th anniversary of the presentation of the first petition for women’s votes. Our founder, Millicent Fawcett, collected signatures on a petition that she was not old enough to sign herself.

We are celebrating this historic occasion with a drinks reception, a Women’s Suffrage birthday cake and an intergenerational feminist debate in parliament on:

Hosted by Fiona Mactaggart MP, chaired by broadcaster Sue MacGregor and featuring a diverse panel of leading feminist campaigners, writers and commentators including Harriet Harman MP. Further names to be added. We will be discussing the themes of:

  • Continuity and change – reflecting on the transformational change that we have seen over the past 150 years and the challenges that remain
  • Inclusion and difference – how the feminist movement includes or excludes, how we ‘own’ our feminism and how we develop an agenda for an increasingly diverse and intersectional world
  • Challenges for the future – what we need to do differently to ensure feminism (and the Fawcett Society) is relevant to the next generation

Places are strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

If you’d like to become a member of Fawcett, visit our website here for more details.
