19 May 2016 18:00 ~ Hitting Back Project – oral history of domestic abuse – Amirah Foundation – Birmingham

A project in partnership with the HLF and The Amirah Foundation, depicting the history of attitudes and responses to Domestic Abuse in the UK

We aim to investigate and depict the attitudes and responses to Domestic Abuse across the UK over the last 100 years, in order to highlight the progress and occasional setbacks.

Using oral history interviews and both desk and archival research we aim to identify media stories and interview individuals whom have experienced domestic abuse.

We aim to celebrate the actions of activists who have both helped shape public policy and supported change in the field of domestic abuse and endeavour to continue the cause by supporting others to carry out this research and involve them in the collection and preservation of our heritage, which will culminate in a workbook and exhibition that will be displayed in and around Birmingham.

Amirah Foundation is training women to conduct a series of oral history interviews looking at attitudes and responses to domestic abuse over the past 50 years.

On Thursday 19 May 2016 we are holding an Open Evening so that service users and stakeholders can find out more about the project and how to get involved.

There will be opportunities for you to participate in the project and during the eveing well be conducting short vox-pops for you to share your gems.

We would welcome your presence and your support.

Refreshments 6-7pm followed by presentation and discussions.
