Stitched Up – Clothes Upcycling

Call in any Tuesday morning and catch up with other local women at the Workshop. There will always be something to drink and eat in an easy-going atmosphere. There will sometimes be craft and other fun activities and discussions to take part in too.

Howway the Lasses in Association with Imperial War Museum

A special screening in association with the Imperial War Museum.

To mark the centenary of the end of WWI, and pay tribute to the contribution of the many women who worked on the frontline in 1914-18,
we will show a selection of films from the IWM collection which feature the work of amongst others the Suffragette surgeons, the Women’s
Land Army, and women in nursing roles in France, Belgium, Palestine, Gaza, Switzerland and the US.

Plus, the latest documentary from local filmmaker Alysoun Sharpe, Night of Years, which celebrates the life of Northumberland born Victorian Feminist and social reformer Josephine Butler who campaigned for the right of women to better education, the end of coverture in British law, and the abolition of child prostitution. Born in Milfield in 1828 she was buried in nearby Kirknewton in 1906.

And finally, we’re also premiering the new short made by Cinema for All, Vote 100: Born a Rebel, which brings together vintage films from the Yorkshire, North East and North West Film Archives. The film is an exploration of women in protest across the North of England and marks 100 years UK women’s suffrage.
